Gunmen mount cartoon protest outside EU’s Gaza office
02/02/2006 - 11:40:52Palestinian gunmen have surrounded the EU's offices in Gaza City today to protest at the publication of controversial cartoons in several European newspapers.
The French daily France Soir yesterday became the latest publication to reprint the drawings, which include a depiction of the Prophet Mohammed wearing a turban shaped like a bomb.
Islamic tradition bars any depiction of the Prophet and the caricature, which first appeared in the Danish media last September, has caused widespread outrage in the Muslim world.
The gunmen protesting in Gaza today are demanding an apology from the governments of France, Denmark and Norway, where the cartoon has also been published.
They are also urging Palestinians to boycott products from the three countries.
