Monty's woes continue

02/02/2006 - 08:18:31
Colin Montgomerie’s £15m (€22m) divorce may have been preying on his mind as he slumped to a five-over-par 42 in his first nine holes of the Dubai Desert Classic.

The Scot started with a bogey at the 10th, followed it up with another at the 11th and then took a double bogey six at the 14th.

He hit three pars before another bogey at the 18th completed a miserable early morning for the 43-year-old.

But Montgomerie, the 1996 winner here, staged a mini-revival with successive birdies at the second and third to leave him at three over, 10 behind the leaders.

South African world number three Retief Goosen headed the early running after five birdies and an eagle in his first 12 holes to leave him at seven under.
