TDs, Senators claimed €10m in expenses last year
02/02/2006 - 07:25:58TDs and Senators reportedly claimed more than €10m in tax-free expenses in 2005, allowing some to double their income for the year.
Reports this morning said TDs shared €7.7m in expenses payments, with Senators receiving €2.6m.
The reports said Fianna Fáil TD John Dennehy and Independent TD Michael Lowry claimed the largest sums.
The two - along with Labour Senator Michael McCarthy, Fianna Fáil's Noel Davern and Fine Gael's Dinny McGinley - were paid more than €80,000 on top of their €87,000 salary.
