Centrica shares soar amid 'Gazprom approach' reports
02/02/2006 - 15:37:39The owner of British Gas added around £1bn (€1.47bn) to its value today amid reports of an approach from state-owned Russian energy giant Gazprom.
Speculation has mounted in recent weeks that Gazprom would make a bid for a UK power supplier to secure 20% of the domestic gas market.
But a spokesman for Centrica, the parent company of British Gas, today said he was not aware of any approach.
