Two birds test positive for flu in Hong Kong
01/02/2006 - 12:16:52A chicken and another dead bird have tested positive for bird flu in Hong Kong, health authorities said today.
The dead bird, a crested myna, was found in an urban area in Hong Kong and had the H5N1 bird flu virus according to preliminary tests conducted today, said Thomas Sit of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.
The chicken, which was bought by a villager from a relative in mainland China on January 26, showed clinical signs of bird flu on January 30 and tested positive for the virus, Sit said.
Three people who might have come into contact with the chicken were held in isolation wards in hospitals, said Thomas Tsang of the Health Department.
The three were being tested for bird flu but showed no obvious bird flu symptoms, Tsang said.
