Public sector earnings rise 5.7%
01/02/2006 - 11:22:03Average weekly earnings in the public sector (excluding health) rose by 5.7% in the year to September 2005, according to figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
Average earnings rose by 5.7% for the same period while employment was up by 4,100.
A total of 243,300 people were employed in the public sector (excluding health) in September 2005 compared to 239,200 in September 2004.
Overall employment in the public sector was 344,800 in September 2005, an increase of 7,200 compared with September 2004.
Employment in education increased from 82,500 to 85,300. Employment in the health sector increased from 98,400 to 101,500 while employment in the semi-state sector fell from 57,800 to 57,000 in the same period.
