Man and woman arrested in relation to Evelyn Joel death
Gardaí in Co Wexford have arrested two people this morning in connection with the death of Evelyn Joel.
The 59- year old died in Wexford General Hospital on January 7, several days after she was admitted, weighing just four stone.
She was found severely malnourished, dehydrated and lying in her own excrement after her daughter Eleanor Joel called an ambulance on New Year’s Day.
Mrs Joel, who had multiple sclerosis, had been living with her daughter Eleanor and her partner at their house in Enniscorthy for more than a year before her death.
Two separate investigations, by the Gardaí and by the Health Service Executive, were launched into the circumstances of her death.
A man and a woman from the Enniscorthy area were brought into the local garda station for questioning at about 10am today and are being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. They can be detained for up to 12 hours.
