Cullen dismisses M50 toll hike claims

30/01/2006 - 17:22:23
The Minister for Transport Martin Cullen said today that it would be premature and ill-judged to say the cost of using the M50 will increase when barrier-free tolling is introduced in two years time.

He has launched phase one of the upgrade of Dublin's orbital motorway to widen the five kilometre stretch between the N4 and N7.

Fine Gael claims that motorists face increased charges.

Martin Cullen admits pricing is a contentious issue at the moment: “You have sensitivity between pricing and sensitivity in the context of people actually using the system itself.

“I don’t know what the outcome is, nor does the NRA at this stage. People have made huge presumptions in the last 48 hours as to what the outcome will be on the M50.”
