O’Connor expecting ‘physical’ test from Cork
Kerry manager Jack O’Connor is bracing his side for a physical battle against neighbours Cork in tomorrow’s McGrath Cup final.
The Dromid clubman reckons the Rebels will offer a much stiffer test for his side, who romped to a 2-15 to 0-07 win over college side UCC last weekend in Killarney.
“I think it’s clear that there is an obvious difference between colleges football and inter-county football, and Cork will certainly be a far tougher test than what we have met so far, even a good deal tougher than Waterford,” O’Connor said.
“The main difference between the colleges and inter-county sides is the physical strength. County teams tend to be far bigger and stronger, and won’t be pushed off the ball the way a college side might,” he told the Kerryman.
O’Connor is likely to stick with the rotation policy he has been using for the McGrath Cup, a title that Kerry have surprisingly only won once - back in 1996. Glenbeigh/Glencar forward Darren O'Sullivan scored 1-1 against UCC at right corner forward and should remain in the Kingdom line-up.
Throw-in at Pairc Uí Rinn, where Cork and Kerry also clash in the National League on February 11, is 3.00pm.
