Govt to introduce work permits for foreign students
28/01/2006 - 10:37:29Work permits for students coming to Ireland from outside the European Union to work and study are to be introduced by the Government.
Current arrangements allow students on approved courses to work up to 20 hours per week, but it is believed the rules are not being enforced.
The change is being made to stop schools that are running as so-called "visa factories".
The new permits will also help prevent exploitation of the foreign students, as the employer's name and working conditions will be spelled out on the documents.
