McClaren contract a done deal - Gibson
Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson believes manager Steve McClaren’s contract is a done deal – even though it has yet to be signed.
It had been thought that England number two McClaren had already put pen to paper but it emerged earlier this week that that was not the case.
Gibson told The Times: “The contract is in place so it’s not an issue. Contracts do not have to be signed to be enforceable and in any case when I shake hands with somebody then it’s a deal as far as I am concerned.
“It’s a non-event (the contract issue). In business when you say you have signed a contract it’s as much a figure of speech as anything else. It means that it’s agreed.
“When we announced that Steve’s deal had been done it’s because it had been. We are working to that contract and abiding by it. It would be honoured by this football club even if I wanted to sack the manager – which I do not - because it’s in place.”
