Chicken factory to lay off 400 workers in Derry
27/01/2006 - 11:59:46A chicken processing plant in Derry has announced plans to close with the loss of 400 jobs.
Management at the Farm Fed factory in Coleraine informed employees this morning that the company had been forced into the move due to rising costs coupled with the importation of low-priced poultry from abroad.
Farm Fed, which supplies large clients like Sainsbury's, Iceland and Kentucky Fried Chicken, processes 15 million chickens every year from around 60 farms in Co Derry.
