It's good to talk, Whelan tells FA
Wigan chief Dave Whelan is urging the Football Association to speak with other Premier League chairmen before appointing a successor to Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Whelan is adamant the next England manager should be an Englishman, and that it is incumbent on the FA it makes the right choice.
Time would certainly appear to be on the FA’s side, as Eriksson is not due to step down until after this summer’s World Cup finals in Germany.
Whelan, never one to hide his light under a bushel, firmly believes the FA should forget going down the foreign route again and turning to the likes of current favourite Guus Hiddink.
Instead, Whelan feels the job should go to one of what he sees as six outstanding managers in the English game, including his very own Paul Jewell in that assessment.
He believes the FA should be pro-active and consult with those in the know, stating: “They should take the advice of some of the top chairman in this league and listen to what they say.”
