Armagh star on the mend after horror leg break
John Toal could be back playing football as early as June.
The speed of the Armagh midfielder’s recovery from a broken leg has surprised many.
The Keady clubman was stretchered off after 32 minutes of the drawn Ulster SFC final clash between Armagh and Tyrone last July. The 26-year-old admitted afterwards that he was “very close to actually losing a leg”.
Toal lost his cruciate ligament, lateral ligament and a bag of fluid.
He also ripped the calf muscle and the hamstring that was attached to his knee, as well as losing a considerable amount of cartilage.
Since then, the 2002 All-Ireland winner has had surgery to reconstruct his knee, and his recovery is ahead of schedule.
Toal, who is back doing some light jogging, also underwent intensive treatment at the Sports Injury Rebab Centre in Lilleshall, England.
