Labour criticises Govt for slow broadband rollout
The Labour Party has attacked the Government over the slow progress in rolling out broadband.
Communications spokesperson, Tommy Broughan TD, was reacting to the news this week that the North now has 100% access to broadband lines.
At present it is estimated that less than 70% of Irish homes are eligible to install the high speed lines.
Deputy Broughan said that the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Minister Noel Dempsey must take fu ll responsibility.
“I think the achievement of Northern Ireland puts the Republic of Ireland to shame, in terms of Broadband.
"Northern Ireland and the British government there made a deal with BT and has now enabled all of Northern Ireland, both rural and urban areas, whereas in the Republic we still have, perhaps, less than 70% broadband enabled,” he said.
