Trailer load of toxic sludge found abandoned in Louth
19/01/2006 - 13:28:26The local authorities in Co Louth are investigating the discovery of an abandoned trailer containing toxic sludge on a road north of Dundalk today.
The trailer is believed to contain a number of plastic barrels filled with chemicals left over from the process of illegally "laundering" coloured agricultural diesel.
Toxic chemicals are usually added to this diesel to remove the colour so it can be illegally sold as regular fuel.
Earlier this week, around 45,000 litres of this sludge was also found on a road near Castleblaney in Co Monaghan.
