Radiohead gig makes way for orchestra rehearsal
British rockers Radiohead have had their request to perform two concerts in Chicago, Illinois' Millennium Park denied, so a local orchestra can rehearse.
Concert promoters acting on behalf of the Paranoid Android stars approached city bosses to propose two gigs at the park's Jay Pritzker Pavilion on 19 and 20 June, but were turned away because the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra is practicing on the second date.
Cultural Affairs Department spokeswoman Karen Ryan tells the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper: "Free public programming is part of the venue's mission. We have to support organisations such as the Grant Park Orchestra, but we're open to other events if there are availabilities at other times."
The Grant Park Symphony Orchestra is unable to rehearse at a different venue because it needs its own sound system.
