Flights cancelled as Alitalia employees strike

Employees at Italy’s Alitalia went on strike today, forcing the state airline to cancel 74 flights.

Unions called the strike over restructuring plans at the money-losing airline that has cut jobs and spun off the airline’s flight unit from its less profitable ground services business.

The Rome-based airline operates 190 aircraft and flies to 500 destinations in more than 100 countries.

Alitalia said it had cancelled 26 domestic and 48 international flights.
