Dubs opt to experiment

11/01/2006 - 13:22:09
Dublin manager Paul Caffrey has opted to field an experimental line-up for tonight's O'Byrne Cup first round tie with UCD at O'Toole Park.

The floodlit fixture will see the Leinster champions start only four players - defender Barry Cahill and forwards Tomas Quinn, Alan Brogan and David O'Callaghan - who saw championship action last summer.

Amongst the newcomers are the 20-year-old Sean Breheny of St Jude's, who lines out at full-back, Kevin Bonner, the son of former Donegal forward Seamus, gets a chance at full-forward, while the midfield pairing of O'Toole's giant Eamonn Fennell and former junior player Denis Bastick is an untried one.

David Henry, who missed the 2005 championship due to a broken arm, is recalled at right half-back, and dual player Ger O'Meara, who has committed himself to football for the coming season, has been given the left half-forward berth.

Throw-in at the Ayrfield venue is 8.00pm.
