Tourists urged to take bird flu precautions in Turkey

The Department of Agriculture is reportedly advising Irish people travelling to Turkey to take extra precautions due to the bird flu outbreak in the country.

At least 15 people have contracted the deadly H5N1 strain of the virus in the country, with three children from the same families dying from the illness.

Reports this morning said Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan was calling on Irish holiday-makers to stay away from farms and bird markets in Turkey and to avoid all contact with wild birds and live poultry.
