Govt urged to abandon relocation of aid programme offices

An organisation representing Irish aid groups has called on the Government to reconsider its plans to move the offices of its aid programme to Limerick.

The Government is planning to relocate Development Co-operation Ireland to the western city as part of its contentious decentralisation programme.

Dochas said today that the move would harm Irish overseas aid operations because experienced staff are refusing the make the move.

Less than 20% of DCI's existing staff have expressed an interest in relocating to Limerick, something Dochas director Hans Zomer said should prompt a government re-think.
