IBOA to demand 10% pay increase in partnership deal

The Irish Bank Officials Association is to demand pay increases of 10% over the next two years as part of any new social partnership agreement.

The union is to table the proposal at a meeting of ICTU's executive council next week ahead of planned talks on a successor to the Sustaining Progress deal.

The IBOA also wants a local bargaining clause in any new agreement to allow workers to seek extra increases of bonuses from extremely profitable companies.

Spokesman Larry Broderick said the banking sector was one area where massive profits were being made.

"It's about time that private sector workers, particularly in banking, get a share of the huge profits and benefits that are out there," he said.
