Bord Bia reports good year for Irish food and drink firms

The Irish food and drink industry overcame major challenges to enjoy a positive year in 2005, according to a review published today by Bord Bia.

The food board said experts increased in value by around 0.7% to €7.1bn last year, despite increased competition and falling prices throughout Europe.

It said drink exports performed best during the year, increasing in value by 5.8% to more than €1bn.

Bord Bia chief executive Aidan Cotte r said conditions would remain challenging in 2006, but the board was expecting continued growth during the year ahead.
