Duddy to fight for New York title
Unbeaten Derry middleweight John Duddy is to fight for the New York State title at Madison Square Garden on March 16.
26-year-old Duddy is to headline manager Eddie McLoughlin's Irish Ropes promotion in the Big Apple, taking on respected Puerto Rican Miguel Hernandez, the current holder of the Illinois State belt.
If Duddy can rack up his 15th straight pro win against Hernandez, then a date with former IBF light middleweight champion Luis Ramon "Yory Boy" Campas beckons.
Campas, 34, claimed the vacant North American middleweight belt last time out and McLoughlin is eyeing a big pay day for his charge against the classy Mexican.
"We had originally planned to match John with Campas for Paddy's Day weekend, but with John going for a title, it will be a big night anyway," McLoughlin said.
"Campas is a very big name and we'll definitely be setting a date with him during the course of the year."
Duddy is to warm up for the Hernandez bout with a February 14 outing in South Boston against an as yet unnamed opponent.
