Females file £800m (€1.17bn) suit against bank
Current and former female employees of the German investment bank Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein Securities LLC filed a £800 million lawsuit today, saying the company discriminates against women, preventing advancement and fair treatment.
The lawsuit in US District Court in Manhattan offered a slew of statistics to back up their claims, noting for instance that only four of 258 women in the company’s Capital Markets Division are managing directors, positions held by 15% of men.
Six women named as plaintiffs in the lawsuit said they were seeking an end to the unlawful denial of promotions as well as compensation equal to male employees and equality in other conditions of employment.
According to the lawsuit, women cannot advance to senior levels at the company.
It said that in addition to barriers to advancement to the highest executive level – managing director – there also were barriers at the lower levels.
