Straw urges Syria to co-operate with Hariri probe

UK Foreign Secretary Jack Straw today urged Syria to fully cooperate with the UN investigation into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

Speaking to journalist after meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora, Straw called upon Syria to recognise Lebanon as a sovereign state and to establish diplomatic relations with its tiny western neighbour.

Straw said the United Kingdom has “no policy whatsoever” of a regime change in Syria, saying any “change of government in Syria must be a matter for the Syrian people.”
