Finance Dept figures show another extraordinary year
04/01/2006 - 17:52:16Figures published this afternoon by the Department of Finance show that 2005 was another spectacular year for the Irish economy.
Budget forecasts in 2004 indicated that the government would have a deficit of €2.9bn at the end of last year, however it turned out the deficit was only €499m - €2.4bn better than had been predicted.
In total the government took in €39.8bn, an increase of 3.5bn on 2004, however €511m came from once off sources such as offshore investigations.
