Pope calls for policies in support of families
30/12/2005 - 12:29:51Pope Benedict XVI today called for policies and laws in support of the family, saying modern society often failed to create conditions for parenthood.
He spoke during a visit to a Vatican medical centre, where he met with doctors, nuns and volunteers.
“There is a great need, both on a cultural level and on the political and legislative ones, to support the family,” said the Pope.
“Contemporary societies, while gifted with many means, do not always manage to facilitate the mission of parents, both on the level of spiritual and moral motivation and on that of the practical conditions of life,” said Benedict.
Last month, the Pope praised large families and called for countries to approve legislation and other incentives to help them.
