Record number of passports issued in 2005
30/12/2005 - 13:02:49A record number of Irish passports were issued this year, according to figures published today by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The department said more than 680,000 passports were issued during 2005, an increase of 12% on the figures for last year.
It said 70% of applicants had used the Passport Express service whereby people can lodge applications in more than 1,000 post offices and receive their passport within 10 working days.
