Dublin Tourism reports 5% increase in trade this year
The state body responsible for promoting tourism in Dublin has reported a bumper year for the capital's tourism industry.
Dublin Tourism said overall trade rose by 5% in 2005, while revenues generated by visitors to the city increased by 7%.
Announcing the figures today, the organisation's chief executive, Frank Magee, said Fáilte Ireland's decision to market the capital separately from the rest of the country would help tourism grow further.
He also rejected suggestions this would harm the tourism trade in other parts of the country.
"We must stop trying to compare Dublin with the rest of Ireland, because that becomes divisive and it takes the focus of what needs to be done and what can be done," Mr Magee said.
"Dublin's competitors are other European cities. We have to focus on that and regard the rest of Ireland as a totally different product."
