A cross border investigation has been launched following an armed robbery in Donegal.

It happened at Lifford, on the border with Strabane in County Tyrone.

At 9:25am, two masked men—one armed with a gun—entered the bookies at Butcher’s Street in Lifford.

They threatened the manager and two customers before making off with three bags of cash.

The amount taken hasn’t been confirmed, but it is believed to be a substantial five-figure sum.

The men escaped toward the roundabout at Clifford Bridge in a white transit-style van, the registration number isn’t known.

Gardaí are trying to determine whether or not the van crossed the border into Strabane in Co Tyrone.
