McCoy on target at Fontwell

20/12/2005 - 13:41:12
Glasker Mill ran out a straightforward winner of the opening contest at Fontwell as Tony McCoy extended his advantage in the jockeys’ championship with another winner.

The jumps season might not even have reached Christmas but McCoy is already well past the 100-winner barrier and 10 victories clear of nearest pursuer Richard Johnson.

McCoy’s mount, a 4-11 chance, led at the sixth flight and cantered clear to score by six lengths.

Flash Cummins, having lost his place with a circuit to go, stayed on again in the final stages to finish second.

The thawing frost led to conditions being on the testing side, which seemed to suit the winner, according to trainer Henrietta Knight.

“It wasn’t much of a contest but as an Irish point-to-point winner, we certainly hoped that he would go on the ground,” she said.
