Dublin Airport braced for busiest festive period
Almost 920,000 people will be passing through Dublin Airport over the Christmas period, making this festive season the busiest on record, a spokeswoman said today.
The airport will see a 15% increase in passenger numbers on last year as more people than ever head home or on holiday.
Friday December 23 looks set to be the busiest day before Christmas, with 75,000 people expected to travel, while Friday December 30 should see more than 71,000 passengers at the airport, making it the busiest day after the break.
More than 300 charter flights have been added to the schedule for people heading to winter sun and ski destinations, including Lanzarote, Las Palmas, Innsbruck and Salzburg.
Holidaymakers are being warned not to wrap Christmas presents they are carrying in their luggage because they may be asked to open them by security officials at the airport.
They are also being asked to allow plenty of time to get to the airport, check in and go through security.
To give the terminal a festive feel, it has been decorated and will have a music programme over the Christmas period, while staff will be carol singing around the building raising funds for charity.
The Arrivals Hall is also playing host to drawings from a children’s Christmas art competition by local schools.
