B&Q chairman stands down

20/12/2005 - 08:41:20
Sir Francis Mackay vacated a second high-profile post today after announcing his retirement as chairman of B&Q retail chain Kingfisher.

The 61-year-old, who is also quitting the same role at caterer Compass, will hand over the reins to Peter Jackson, the former chief executive of Primark-owner Associated British Foods.

Mackay has been chairman of Kingfisher since 2001 and oversaw the transformation of the company into a dedicated home-improvement retailer following the disposal of Woolworths and Superdrug.

The change at the top is scheduled to take place at the company’s annual general meeting in May.
