Investigators in Cyprus to re-enact fatal Helios flight

19/12/2005 - 08:51:04
Greek investigators in Cyprus are to re-enact the flight of a Cypriot airliner that crashed near Athens on August 14, killing all 121 people on board.

“We consider this flight necessary to shed light on some dark aspects that emerged during the investigation,” senior investigator Serapheim Kamoutsis told a press conference in Larnaca shortly before take-off.

“We hope certain basic questions will be answered.”

The Helios Airways Boeing 737-300 lost cabin pressure and ran out of fuel before slamming into a hillside outside Grammatiko, a village 25 miles north of the Greek capital.

It had been heading from Larnaca to Prague, with a stop at Athens.
