19/12/2005 - 07:18:41
A car bomb exploded outside a children’s hospital in western Baghdad today, causing a number of casualties, police said.

The bomb detonated outside the main gate to the hospital. Authorities sealed off the area, and there were no immediate details of the number of casualties.

At least two civilians were killed and 11 people injured, including seven policemen, officials said.

Police believe the car, driven by a suicide bomber, had been targeting a passing convoy carrying a police colonel. The colonel was among the injured.

It was not immediately clear if any of the people injured had been inside the hospital at the time of the explosion.
