Louth man pleads guilty to crimes at manslaughter scene

A Co Louth man has pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to two charges relating to his role in an attack at the home of a 28-year-old man who died from injuries to his head, neck and body.

Robert Heaney (aged 21) of Hand Steet, who was cleared by a jury of the violent killing, pleaded guilty today to committing criminal damage at the home of Russell Deane (aged 28) in Elmwood, Drogheda, Co Louth, and to being an armed trespasser, carrying a golf club, on February 1, 2003.

The case was listed for mention again on January 13 next year and he is expected to be sentenced on January 23. Heaney was released on continuing bail.

Another man, Mark Johnson (aged 22), Church View Upper, Drogheda, was convicted of the manslaughter of Mr Deane, who was his sister's former boyfriend.

He is due to be sentenced next year.
