Longford/Westmeath has highest rate of road deaths

The Longford/Westmeath garda division is reportedly the worst in the country for fatal road accidents.

Reports this morning said the area had the highest road death toll so far this year, with 2.3 fatalities for every 10,000 residents.

The reports said Cavan/Monaghan had the second highest death toll so far this year, while the lowest level of fatalities has been in Dublin city and county, followed by other major urban centres like Limerick, Cork and Waterford.
