Arthur hopes for Vegas inspiration

15/12/2005 - 08:27:24
Alex Arthur will see in the New Year in Las Vegas as he prepares for the defence of his British, European and Commonwealth super-featherweight titles against Ricky Burns at Meadowbank on February 18.

The Edinburgh boxer is hoping time spent with some of the sport’s established names will inspire him to victory over the 22-year-old contender from Glasgow.

He said: “I’m going to Las Vegas for four weeks on Hogmanay so I can get better sparring and training.

“I’m going to be working with Wayne McCullough and we’re going to be surrounded by a crop of top fighters.

“Fighters like Erik Morales are going to be in the gym that we’re training in so I’m looking forward to it.”

Arthur admits 2006 will be a crucial year for him as he seeks the world title he so badly craves.

He said: “I’ve just turned 27 so the world title needs to come next year, it really does. I definitely thought I would be world title holder by now. I am behind schedule but it will work out when it works out.”
