Greens seek consensus on energy policy
15/12/2005 - 13:31:37The Green Party has called on all of Ireland's political parties to adopt a unified approach to Ireland's long-term energy needs.
The party made the call at the official launch of its energy policy today.
The policy includes a major reduction in Ireland's fossil-fuel dependency and an accelerated switch to renewable energy sources.
Green Party spokesman Eamon Ryan said that politicians have a habit of rarely looking beyond the next election, but that a long-term approach is needed in the area of energy.
He said that countries like Denmark had got around the problem by securing cross-party agreement on long-term energy goals.
