McLeish proud of Ibrox reign
Alex McLeish insists he can hold his head high no matter what his future holds, because he was brave enough to have a go at being the manager of Rangers.
He is expected to take charge of his final game tonight when the Ibrox club play host to Inter Milan in the Champions League.
Even if Rangers qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament for the first time, that may not save McLeish’s job.
Chairman David Murray promised last month that McLeish’s position would be reviewed in December, but results in the Bank of Scotland Premier League have failed to improve since that meeting.
In fact, their position in the SPL has worsened, with the Scottish champions now in fifth position and 17 points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic, with little hope of retaining their title.
Even so, McLeish insists he will never regret taking on the challenge at Ibrox.
“For me, to have taken the journey in the first place is something I will always be proud of,” he said.
“There are people who have bottled or spurned the chance to manage here but you have to take the experience from it and it can make you better and stronger.
“Qualification would be tantamount to winning a trophy.
“For me, I would be putting it up there with those other achievements.”
