Klien stays at Red Bull
Christian Klien will stay at Red Bull Racing as David Coulthard’s team-mate for a second season, the team confirmed today.
The Austrian, who made his debut for the Milton Keynes-based squad in 2004 during their Jaguar days, impressed alongside Coulthard in Red Bull’s rookie season.
Red Bull started the season intending to alternate him and Italian youngster Vitantonio Liuzzi but Klien’s form was such that he drove in 15 of the 19 races, scoring nine points.
Red Bull had delayed announcing their driver line-up following their purchase of Minardi but today confirmed Klien will stay on.
“It’s great that I’m going to be driving for Red Bull Racing again in 2006,” he said.
“Next year is really only the start for this team, I think it’s got a great future ahead of it and to be able to be part of that is really exciting.
“I’m definitely looking to improve next year and get more points.
“It’s good to continue working with David as well, I’m still a young driver and can learn a lot from him, although like every racing driver, I’m keen to beat my team-mate on the track.”
Robert Doornbos has already been announced as the team’s test driver, while Red Bull have yet to confirm the precise line-up at Scuderia Toro Rosso, formerly Minardi.
They already have three drivers signed for next year and Liuzzi is certain to race, with Scott Speed his likely partner. Neel Jani is set to be test driver.
