Iran to build second nuclear power plant

05/12/2005 - 08:18:20
Iran plans to construct a second nuclear power plant, despite international concern over its nuclear programme, state television reported today.

The broadcast said President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Cabinet ministers decided last night to build the reactor in Khuzistan province, south-western Iran.

The province was the site for a French-made power plant in the mid 1970s that was stopped after 1979 Islamic revolution.

Iran’s first nuclear power plant, which was built by Russia, is to go on stream in 2006.
