Magpies line up Dyer return
Newcastle boss Graeme Souness has pencilled in Kieron Dyer for a first-team comeback against Arsenal on December 10.
The England midfielder has started just two matches in the Barclays Premiership this season following a hamstring injury and illness.
But 26-year-old is spending this week at the Olympic Medical Institute in Harrow, Essex, and Souness remains hopeful he could return to first-team action within a fortnight.
“Kieron Dyer has been down there for five days in the residential unit,” said Souness. “He is being constantly assessed. We did it just to make sure our staff are not missing anything and another view on things would not do any harm.”
With the World Cup next summer, Dyer will be keen to re-establish himself in the Newcastle team, and to catch the eye of Sven-Goran Eriksson.
“Kieron Dyer has been around here with no end in sight for him and so it is good to have a change of venue,” Souness told www.nufc.co.uk.
“I would think he could be in the running for the Arsenal game.”
