Blow for Durack
Seamus Durack’s plans for a return to action have been put on hold as he may now require further surgery on the injuries he suffered in a fall at Towcester in the spring.
The injury-plagued jockey has been sidelined since May 17 after breaking his right femur and dislocating his hip in the spill.
Complications involving the initial operation resulted in the fractured leg not healing as well as expected and he underwent more surgery in August.
He was hoping to make his comeback in December but when he saw his surgeon, Richard Keys, today he received more bad news.
“My surgeon has referred me to a hip specialist and I think I’ve got to have another operation on my hip now,” the disappointed rider said.
“It’s not ideal but there’s not a lot I can do about it.
“Hopefully I’ll get an appointment in the next couple of days to see the hip specialist and he’ll be able to tell me what the next step is. I think it’s going to be done quite quickly.
“I feel fine but it took the wind out of my sails when I heard the news. I’ll just have to take it as it comes.”
