Babayaro banned for Cahill clash

30/11/2005 - 14:48:48
Newcastle defender Celestine Babayaro has been banned for three matches by the Football Association after admitting a charge of violent conduct.

The charge came following an incident also involving Everton midfielder Tim Cahill during Sunday’s Barclays Premiership match at Goodison Park, which the home side won 1-0.

By admitting the charge, Babayaro is instantly banned and misses tonight’s match in the Carling Cup against Wigan, while Cahill has until 6pm this evening to respond.

The pair were involved in an incident which saw them both lash out at each other after tangling in the penalty area during the match.

Depending on Cahill’s plea, his case could be heard by an FA disciplinary commission tomorrow.

As well as the Wigan cup tie, Babayaro misses Newcastle’s home league matches against Aston Villa and Arsenal.
