Sean Thornton sent League One Doncaster scorching into the Carling Cup quarter-finals with an amazing rout of Aston Villa at Belle Vue.
Thornton’s 79th-minute lob beat Thomas Sorensen and wrapped up victory after an earlier strike from Paul Heffernan and Michael McIndoe’s first-half penalty.
Awful Villa hardly got a foot-hold in a thoroughly one-sided contest with James Milner fashioning their best chance from long-range at the end of the first half.
