Gervais entertains with internet podcasts
British funnyman Ricky Gervais is turning his hand to talk shows - as host of a weekly downloadable internet podcast.
The Extras star is hailing the venture as one of its kind, because neither he nor co-host Stephan Merchant will face any censorship in the independent podcast.
And he hopes the novel project will quickly become a cult hit, although he admits the nature of the broadcast and its controversial material will restrict his audience to a select few.
He says: "I want to do a radio show where I can say what I want, when I want and that's free for anybody who can be bothered to listen.
"I suppose we are trying to create an exclusive club. We'd prefer this to be a few people's favourite show than a huge same-y, ineffectual broadcast."
The show launches on British newspaper Guardian's Unlimited website early next month.
