IBTS to appeal VAT bill for Scottish safety tests

28/11/2005 - 12:34:41
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service is reportedly planning to appeal a massive tax bill it has received in connection with a testing agreement designed to ensure the safety of Irish blood supplies.

Reports this morning said the IBTS was claiming the Revenue Commissioners initially decided VAT was not due on the fees charged by the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service to conduct the safety tests.

However, a new Revenue audit has decided that VAT is due on the payments.

The sum of money involved has not been revealed, but it is believed to be around €500,000.

The IBTS has said the matter will affect neither the price nor supply of blood products.
