Friends star Courtney Cox and husband David Arquette have joined forces for a new comedy about a private investigator, according to reports.

The script will be written by Jeremy Stevens, the man behind hit US sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond.

The as-yet-untitled series will star Arquette and Cox will act as executive producer, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The plot centres on a reluctant private investigator whose life changes when his young son and ex-wife come back to town after eight years.

The show has been picked up by US network ABC and will be produced by Warner Brothers, alongside Arquette and Cox’s own company, Coquette Productions.

The couple married in 1999 and have one daughter, Coco.

Arquette recently appeared in The Adventures Of Sharkboy And Lavagirl In 3-D and Cox is best known for her role as the neurotic Monica in Friends.
